It is no secret that I love to watch movies and series. I am continually amazed by them. By the sheer creativity and storytelling that each of them have. By what a set of pictures changing at high velocity with some sound can do. And so I keep watching, ever searching for the next thing that will move me to tears.

This is especially true with animation. The high storytelling and worldbuilding freedom coupled with the artistic style has something supremely appealing to me, even if I cannot exactly explain why. All my favourite movies and series are animated, from 君の名は。 to Studio Ghibli, they all have a power to unleash my curiosity, my imagination and my tears alike.

I remember the first time I listened to music intently, that is, for the sole act of enjoying it. A cold February morning, at home with a cold, and having watched that previous weekend Big Hero 6 (which is also one of my favorites), I was bored enough to take my mother’s old laptop and start playing the movie’s soundtrack, in an effort to “rewatch” the movie in a way. Since then I have not stopped listening to soundtracks for the movies I see. I enjoy them as a separate medium that carries over the feeling I already had for the movie or series it came from.

I don’t really know where I’m going with this, but I just wanted to somehow transmit the feelings I have in this matter. In fact, I am going to finish STEINS;GATE after this, so that may be why I am so sentimental about animation and soundtracks at the moment. Anyhow, the fact is, I don’t think I will ever stop loving them, and with the infinite possibilities of anime (and the Japanese I can learn from it), it will possibly grow. And I am quite fine with that.
